VICTIM 0001

1x60'
ITV1
Sept 2004

Victim 0001, commissioned by ITV and a recent finalist at the New York Film & Television Festival, tells the moving story of Father Mychal Judge, chaplain of the New York Fire Department, who became the first victim of the September 11 terrorist attack. More than 3,000 people attended his funeral including Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Father Mychal's story of self sacrifice became the inspiration to many people including artists and songwriters both during his life and following his death. He became a symbol of hope and triumph for the American people at a time of great adversity. Miracles have been reported in his name and a campaign has been launched to make him a saint. Despite Father Mychal's heroism, many of his closest friends feel uncomfortable about the canonisation process, believing that he would be the first to admit that he was a flawed human being.
CTVC producer, Ray Bruce, said, "Victim 0001 is essentially a New York story but the themes it exposed of courage and hope resonated with a UK audience. It was a privilege to be associated with such a programme".
It was Victim 0001's sensitive and often controversial portrayal of the life and death of this remarkable human being that won over the judges against stiff competition from other productions.
Nick Stuart, CEO of CTVC and the Executive Producer, said, "Victim 0001 has shown that powerful human stories where faith creates heroes in the midst of tragedy can earn their place within any schedule. Finding a way to look at the tragic events of 9/11 in a different way three years after the event was a tough call but Father Mychal's story did that and more. CTVC is about making powerful television and we are proud to be honoured with such an important award".
The Director was Peter Minns and the Assistant Producer was Cheryl George.
